Overview
Srinagar's living Mughal legacy
The Mughal Gardens of Srinagar are among the most beautiful and historically significant gardens in India. Nestled along the eastern side of Dal Lake, with the majestic Zabarwan Mountain Range in the background, these gardens are a perfect blend of Mughal architecture, Persian-style landscaping, terraced lawns, fountains, water channels, colourful flower beds, and centuries-old Chinar trees.
The three main Mughal gardens — Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, and Chashme Shahi — were built during the 16th and 17th centuries by Mughal emperors and nobles. Each garden reflects the grandeur of Mughal design, featuring symmetrical layouts, cascading fountains, flowing water channels, and scenic views of Dal Lake.
During spring and autumn, the gardens come alive with vibrant tulips, roses, and seasonal flowers, making them one of the most photographed places in Kashmir. Whether you are a history lover, nature enthusiast, photographer, or family traveller, the Mughal Gardens offer a peaceful and unforgettable experience.
