Often called Kashmir's Hidden Paradise, Gurez is known for breathtaking landscapes, rich Dard-Shina culture, crystal-clear rivers, and its peaceful atmosphere. The valley remains snowbound during winter and is accessible mainly from May to October via scenic Razdan Pass.

Whether you're a nature lover, photographer, trekker, or seeking the untouched beauty of the Himalayas, Gurez Valley offers an unforgettable escape.

History

An ancient Himalayan route

Historically, Gurez was an important stop on the ancient Silk Route connecting Kashmir with Gilgit and Central Asia. The valley has been home to the Dard-Shina community, one of the oldest ethnic groups in the Himalayan region, known for its unique language, traditions, and culture.

Because of its strategic location near the Line of Control, Gurez remained relatively isolated for many years. Improved road connectivity now welcomes tourism while preserving its natural beauty and cultural heritage.
