Overview
An offbeat Chenani–Dudu escape
In Udhampur's remote mountains, Dudu Valley is a hidden gem of untouched green landscapes, forests, waterfalls, and quiet Himalayan surroundings. In the higher Chenani–Dudu reaches, it is a tranquil escape from busier destinations.
Mountains, traditional villages, valleys, temples, and trails lead on toward Basantgarh. The sacred Vasuki Naag Temple and a waterfall nearby add spiritual and natural interest. Dudu is emerging as a compelling offbeat destination for nature, adventure, and serenity.
History
Dudu has been a mountain settlement for centuries, with strong Dogra cultural, traditional, and religious connections. The region is associated with Vasuki Naag worship; the ancient temple is an important centre for nearby communities and pilgrims.
Its remote setting preserved local customs and natural environment, with forests and routes supporting farming, livestock rearing, and seasonal movement. It is now gaining recognition for unexplored Himalayan scenery.
