Overview
Where mountains meet the waters of Chenab
Chinka Valley is an emerging Reasi destination around the Salal Dam backwaters on the Chenab River. Mountain scenery, expansive water, rural hills, forests, and open landscapes create a quieter side of Jammu & Kashmir.
It is being developed for nature, adventure, and water-based tourism. The reservoir gives the valley its signature character, appealing to photographers, families, and travellers seeking scenic exploration away from crowded routes.
History & local character
Chinka lies in Reasi's Arnas area, among mountain and rural communities. The Salal Hydroelectric Project shaped the modern landscape by forming the Salal reservoir on the Chenab.
Today the water and hills define a lesser-known Reasi attraction, alongside district efforts to grow adventure, nature, and spiritual tourism.
Suggested route
Jammu → Katra → Reasi → Chinka
Katra–Reasi is approximately 24–30 km; Reasi–Chinka about 20 km. Use an approximate Katra distance of 45–50 km because viewpoints within Chinka vary. Jammu–Chinka is approximately 95–105 km via Katra and Reasi, through mountain roads and rural scenery to the Salal reservoir.
